About This Piece
In 1836, the London Zoo opened for the first time. In celebration of that, transferware makers produced pieces reflecting a romanticized view of the Zoo, featuring swans, tigers, rhino, etc. This open dish, made by Robinson, Wood & Brownfield, c. 1837, shows a caged tiger with visitors looking on. It is in exceptional condition, with only minor crazing as appropriate to age. There may have been a top for this piece at some point. Delightful for use or display.
