About This Piece
In 1836, the London Zoo opened for the first time. In celebration, transferware makers produced pieces reflecting a romanticized view of the Zoo, featuring swans, tigers, rhino, etc. This covered dish, made by Robinson, Wood & Brownfield, c. 1837, shows swans on the top piece, and a caged tiger in the bottom. It is in exceptional condition, with only minor crazing as appropriate to age.
