J. Wedg Wood Transferware Serving Bowl, from August 23, 1848
$50.00
This earthenware serving bowl is an ironstone/transferware lover's delight. It's about 7.5x5, with a completely fantastical scene that includes rivers, mountains, boating, sun rays, people and trees. It has the exact right amount of staining, and there is some wear on the edges. No chips. What fascinates me is the label on the back - it was owned by a collector who deciphered the mark to be able to identify that it was made by J. Wedg Wood in Tunstall, on August 23, 1848! The pattern is "Columbia".
