About this Piece
A rare offering - a soup tureen with underplate and ladle. Made by Enoch Wood & Sons, c. 1818-1846, this is a lovely piece in fantastic antique condition. Underplate is approximately 7×4 inches. No chips or cracks. From the Transferware Collectors Club: The scene βshows the mansion in Cokethorpe Park, Oxfordshire,which lies 2.5 miles southeast of Witney. It was begun in 1709 by Sir Simon (later Viscount) Harcourt whose house guests included literati such as Jonathan Swift (a frequent visitor). It passed to Walter Strickland, High Sheriff of Oxford and chair of the Witney Railway. The structure was considerably revised in the late 18th century and is now a private school.β
