Old and new, together

One of the questions I get all the time is what to do with old pieces. Many of us are storing them in boxes in attics or basements … or donating them (hopefully to a worthy cause).

But I absolutely love using my antique pieces with new ones to bring a more casual vibe to my ‘extra’ table. Older pieces tend to be smaller, so the salad and dinner plates of yore fit well on top of the larger dinner plates that are available today.

I don’t mind mixing patterns, if they’re all harmonious in the color. I have some new bread/salad plates from Pip Studios in a hot pink stripe that go amazingly well with those delicately designed floral antiques.

When I’m considering a new plate to add to my mix, I often take separate images and overlay them to see how they might go together. It’s not a perfect solution, but I find that photographing things gives your eye details that you miss when you ‘imagine’ things together.

If I can help you match your antique or vintage pieces to give them new life on your table, just let me know!
